My Way Tours

We are doing the Spain My Way tour this summer! Will the tour guides assigned to us have tickets for sale to us for some of the sights/main attractions? Or should we just plan to buy our tickets online on our own prior to arriving? Thanks!

You may get answers here but of course your best source of accurate, up to date info will be from the nice folks at Rick Steves Europe, whom you can contact directly on their website, rather than relying on this Forum.

I am doing the My Way Italy this fall and from all the information that I have received, you need to buy your own tickets to things that they recommend reserving in advance. On the MyWay Spain, these include - Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, the Prado, and the Alhambra. The tour manager may be able to help you get tickets if you were not able to, but he does not have tickets for sale. Sometimes the value of buying tickets ahead of time doesn't necessarily mean you can't get into a site but saves you from standing in line. I would definitely buy tickets for the Sagrada Familia and Alhambra ahead of time if these are things that you want to visit. There is another post here that talks about tickets to the Alhambra being sold out for dates in May already.

The Rick Steves website clarifies that one of their Spain my way tours basically is intended by them to just provide transportation. I don't know if you're on that tour, but you will be able to tell if you closely read the tour descriptions on their website.

Thanks Leslie and Kent - I will plan to get some of those tickets in advance. I am looking forward to visiting Spain for the first time this summer!

We took the My Way Alpine tour a couple of years ago, and loved My Way philosophy!
This is what it says in the tour description:

"Costs not covered: As this is not a guided tour, you will be responsible for the cost of all your lunches, dinners, drinks, admissions, sightseeing, and non-group transportation. Be sure to plan and budget accordingly. See our Tour Conditions for important details regarding everything listed above"

Edit to add: no, the tour escort will not have tickets for sale. Your tour packet might recommend some tickets that should be bought in advance.

Jessica,
Do take heed to Kent’s advice and contact the tour office and get all your questions answered.

When will you be taking this tour?

If you do need to book your own tickets, make sure you book your Alhambra tickets ASAP, up to 3 months in advance.

FYI: May tickets are already completely sold out. June tickets are sold out for most of the month.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Bob and Priscilla- I just checked my tour itinerary online and it does list the recommended activities. Our trip starts mid-June so I will be working on those reservations today. I thought that maybe tour guides would have tickets sort of like optional activities but I'll have better piece of mind with already having made the reservations. Gracias!

Jessica,

Are your tour dates June 20-June 30?
If so, it looks like you'll be in Granada on June 25 (evening) and June 26.

If you’ve not booked your Alhambra tickets yet, it looks like there are 3 ‘Alhambra General’ tickets available for the evening of June 26.

You’ll want to book any ticket(s) available at this point.
Just make sure the ticket includes the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife.

I’m checking the Alhambra website as I write this post and it looks like there are still a few Dobla de Oro tickets left for June 25 & June 26 (afternoon & evening only)

Good luck!

I did manage to buy tickets yesterday for Sagrada Familia in the afternoon and also for the Alhambra but in the evening (2200). Not many tickets available for the days the tour will be in those cities. :) Thanks for your suggestions.

Jessica,

Keep in mind that the night visit to the Nasrid Palaces will be a different experience than the day visit.

Do consider getting a ticket for the day time.

The gardens & the Generalife are definitely better seen during the day.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Priscilla, unfortunately by the time I got to check the website there were no tickets left :(. I think it will be a unique experience in the evening as well.

Jessica,
There are still a few Dobla de Oro tickets (which include the Nasrid Palaces & Generalife) available for June 25 & June 26.
They're a bit more expensive than the "Alhambra General" tickets, but well worth the extra money.

Act quickly as they will be gone soon!

So glad that you were able to get tickets to both places. I have seen the Alhambra during the day and it is spectacular, but if I was to go a second time, I would go at night. There is always something magical about nighttime visits. If you are a Gaudi fan, you might check this out while in Barcelona https://www.yatzer.com/casa-vicens-gaudi

Listen to Priscilla!

To clarify, the night visit to the Nasrid Palaces is only the Nasrid Palaces and not all the rooms. During the day, you can access the entire campus and all the rooms of the Nasrid as well as the entire Generalife and roam the gardens and other buildings at the site.
