My Barcelona itinerary and a what to do question…

You don't need to book Monserrat ahead of time; especially in mid-november, so play it by ear and decide the night before if you want to go there vs soak up more Barcelona. Weather on the mountain would be a big factor in my choice and you won't know that until the day is close.

One other tip if you do decide to go to Montserrat.

You'll probably buy your tickets from the machine inside Placa Espanya. It's IMO overly complicated, but not rocket surgery. There are (again IMO) way too many ticketing options where you get small discounts for combining the train trip with the ticket and the transport up and down the mountain. Then you can add in the various other gondola trips up higher than the monastery. It can be overwhelming; especially if you have a line of people behind you. Your ticket options. You can arrange your train from Barcelona to Montserrat tickets in two ways: buying individual tickets at the station, or booking a combined pass online before you travel.

Option 1: Buying individual tickets
If you choose this approach, you'll buy standard train tickets from Barcelona to Montserrat at Plaça España to reach the base of the mountain. Once there, you'll queue again for the cable car or rack railway ticket. At the monastery, you'll pay separately for entry to the Basilica and other sites. This works fine, but it does mean multiple transactions, and the costs add up.

Option 2: Montserrat cards
Alternatively, Barcelona to Montserrat train tickets via the Montserrat pass bundles your return train, ascent transport with Rack Railway, and monastery entry into one booking. You book this pass online. You pay less than the individual tickets would cost, and you collect everything at once from the ticket office by showing the reservation confirmation on your phone - no need to queue at the ticket machines.

My personal preference, if you do go, is to just buy the tickets individually. You'll forego a small discount on the combo Train/Cable Car deal but you allow yourself a flexibility to choose what you want to do once you're there. And the biggest advantage IMO, is that you get to take the scenic Cable Car up and take the Cremallera rack loco down. It's a bit of variety and it puts you one stop ahead of the popular Cable Car stop on you return train trip back to Barcelona, so you're more likely to get to sit and rest your weary feet. Maybe in November it's less of a big deal.

Since the Miro museum is the only one you mention, I'm wondering if you are specifically interested in Miro or if you are art lovers more generally. If the latter, the Picasso Museum and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya are worth considering. I really loved the Museu Nacional -- I had to tear myself away after 4 1/2 hour!

Agree with the advice and wait and see. We did this, it ended up there was more we wanted to go back to after our food tour and we did that vs travel to Montserrat.

I think it looks like a great itinerary, room for adjustments on fly or adding or removing as needed.

I am a huge Miro fan so that was a top priority for me. I’m thinking if we stay in Barcelona that we will put Park Guell OR Casa Batllo along with the art museum on our final day.

Assuming that's the tour and not a show, so I'd suggest also looking at the possible shows on Day 3 & 4 to see if any interest you. It's neat doing the tour and then seeing a show.

And if you like Gaudi, I'd toss in one or more of the interior tours. We did several (plus Sagrada Familia) and they're all different enough to be interesting. My wife is now "done" with Gaudi (except the interior of Sagrada which seems to be worthy of multiple visits).

Park Guell is a bit of a trek but the flip side is that November might be a great time to experience it without throngs of fellow guests.

But if you're feeling pressed for time, consider a couple of substitutions... Hospital Sant Pau is just a short ramble up a nice pedestrian street from Sagrada Familia and you'll have the massive grounds and buildings to yourself. Depending on where you are staying, consider Casa Vicens which was his first big commission. It's a great counterpoint to Casa Batllo's peak Gaudi.

We are staying near La Pedrera. I agree that if the weather is not rainy, we should spend time exploring outside. Park Guell and even just wandering other parks.
