Museum of the History of Catalonia

Hello. I'm searching for more information regarding this museum. The visit will be on the second week of march. My questions are:
1) What period of the history is covered?
2) If visiting it first will make a difference understanding the whole Catalonia "picture"?
3) Any recomendations for visiting another place (as an alternative)?

I did enter their web site but did'nt found neither english or spanish translation. Thanks in advance.

I’ve been to this museum. It tells the whole story, from prehistoric times to the present day in its main exhibition. I found it really interesting, although there were a couple of parties of young schoolchildren I needed to avoid!

I spent a couple of hours there.

I think there are captions or information in English as I certainly managed to get some interesting information from the museum, and I don’t speak Catalan.

There’s also a good bookshop & gift shop. There are some nice nearby restaurants.

  • There's also an interesting exhibition about Puig i Cadafalch until April 15th, 2018 on the first floor of the museum. Puig i Cadafalch is one of the most important modernist architects in Catalonia, alongside Gaudí, Sagnier or Domenech i Montaner. He designed some exceptional buildings such as Casa Martí (the ground floor is the famous cafe-restaurant Els Quatre Gats) or Casa Amatller (next to Casa Batlló) in Barcelona. He was also a relevant politician that became President of the Mancomunitat (Commonwealth) of Catalonia in 1917. This year (2017) was the 150th anniversary of his birth.

  • The museum includes lots of interactive attractions, making it into a very visual and enjoyable.

  • While this is very personal, of course, if you're a history buff expect to spend far more than a couple of hours there as there are lots to see. Btw, informative panels as trilingual: Catalan, the local language, and Spanish and English.
