Morocco to Spain Ferry?

I am hoping to plan a trip to Morocco and Southern Spain and Portugal for late fall. Initially I was thinking we would make our way to Tangier and catch the ferry to Tarifa from there. But, from what I can tell, the ferries between Spain and Morocco are not running right now.

Does anyone have anymore information on this? I found a few articles that suggested the closure might be more political as opposed to a COVID precaution. I am trying to determine if it is something that will be resolved in the near term.

Also, anyone have recommendations on alternative methods to get from Morocco to Southern Spain or Portugal? Is a flight the only other option?

Thanks!

Both reasons are correct, Spain currently has a pretty big political crisis going on with Morocco (not reported much in western medias), for Spanish medical aid to the leader of the Polisario Front rebels from Western Sahara. From how I understand it, ferries have been suspended indefinitely between the two countries. Also the current rise in the Delta variant and the 5th covid wave Spain is currently experiencing makes the ferry closure all the more justified I would think.

A flight direct to Portugal would may be best.

I don't know about flights currently operating, but normally you'd be able to fly from Marrakech or Fes to either Spain or Portugal. Avoiding Tangier is all to the good. Check skyscanner for options.

Thanks so much! That is really good information! Perhaps limiting this trip to Morocco would be safest given the covid number in Spain and Portugal right now.
