Montserrat tour

We will be traveling from the US overnight flight to Barcelona. We are doing a cruise but spending 3 days first in Barcelona. Our tour company recommended starting with the Montserrat day trip the day we arrive. They would pick us up from the airport and take us on the tour then back to our hotel. The tour is 5 hours. We haven’t traveled overseas since before 2020 so I’m not sure about how I’ll feel after the flight. I don’t want to loose a day of sight sightseeing so we thought this might be good to keep us going but wanted to see if anyone else has done this schedule. Thank you

I wouldn't do it. You will be jet-lagged. And what if you plane is delayed and arrives late? Will the tour company refund your Money?
I would just go to your hotel (either by the aerobus or taxi), drop your bags off and walk around. Where is your hotel?

Walk the Rambla (but watch out for pickpockets)

See a Gaudi house (casa battle or La Pedreda ) in the Passieg Gracia area. (though you will need tickets in advance.)

Walk in the Barrio Gotic (the old town)

Take a free walking tour in the afternoon.

Book an early dinner (starting at 6 pm) (Spaniards eat late starting at 8 pm or so) at El Qatre Gats (the 4 cats). Google the history of the restaurant.
Or eat at Las Caracoles.

Then go to your hotel and call it an early night.

I would not schedule any tour on arrival day. Instead go to the hotel and leave your luggage. Ask for a recommendation of a local place to have lunch. Walk around the neighborhood. Enjoy a glass of tinto de verano. Visit Santa Caterina market if it’s open. Drop in to Santa Maria del Mar on your way down to the beach. Dip your toes in the Mediterranean. Go back to the hotel to clean up for dinner. Have a nice tapas dinner and go to bed early.
