Montserrat Spain

Good morning,
We plan to visit Montserrat near Barcelona next month. I hope to drive our rental car for this excursion.

Searching for tickets online results in expensive packages. All we want to do is visit the Montseerrat. How can we do that. Do we need tickets?

Thank you,

Jon Mahony

It's been a while since I was there. My memory is yes, you can drive. But if you don't arrive fairly early the walk from the parking lot to the church is pretty long.

I also suggest you remove your cell phone number.

Until someone comes along and posts the link, the official website for Montserrat is www.Montserratvisita.com

It has all the information you need to plan your visit. Currently, the website is asking people not to arrive by car, but it is not forbidden. It is very easy to access from Barcelona and the website gives directions as to how to do that

Are you staying in Barcelona? Do you intend to return to Barcelona after your visit? If “yes” to those two questions, I recommend taking the train and gondola up/down. Really easy to do and then you won’t have to worry about renting a car and parking.

It is a great time up there. One of our favorite things we did during our 2 week Spain trip in 2019. The monastery and surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful!!! Hiking is quite nice and rewarding as well. If you do take the train and gondola, the train back to Barcelona can get pretty full.

I don’t think a tour is necessary. Usually I like to know the ins and outs of everything, including the history and fun facts. But we didn’t do that for Monserrat and had an outstanding time with our self-guided hike and monastery visit.

For me, the Cable car up/cog loco down was part of the fun so choose the free, but admittedly less convenient, car park at the train station?

Or just take the train from Barcelona

I just returned from our trip. Monserrat was spectacular! We took the train from Barcelona, easy ride. From doing our research we chose the Rack railway instead of the cable car. I read that on your return to the train, you would have a better chance on getting better seats for the ride back to Barcelona, the cable car riders hop on after this stop. There's a lot to see, we arrived around midday and stayed till about 6:00. I do not have any info on parking. We purchased the package without the museum. This is a great link to for information: https://youtu.be/DtouuBNpay0?si=eZKTzsQnF90KTCZW

I would love to return and stay in their accommodations!

Enjoy!
