My daughter (47) and myself (active 78) will be in Barcelona for 2 days and I would like to spend one day visiting Montserrat. I am a little nervous about trying to navigate public transportation. We have not book our hotel yet, but I am inclining towards the Gothic Quarter. So would it be best to find a small van transport/tour to Montserrat. Any recommendations. Thank you.
Montserrat is easy to do via public transportation. I found a previous post with information. I would look at Enric's comment, in particular.

Thank you very much. This was very helpful.
Taking public transportation is easy. Here's a guide that helped us DIY

After looking at all these websites, I am thinking of purchasing Tot Montserrat Card: Public Transport from Barcelona + Lunch
Any thoughts on this?
This uses Cremallera Rack Railway transportation up and down. If we decide to buy a separate ticket and take the Cable Car down, does it let you off at a different place and will we have trouble finding out train back to to Plaça Espanya
the cable car brings you back down to a train station. It's not the same train station as the Cremallera, but the train back to Barcelona stops there after it stops at the cremellera stop.
It’s been 10 years, but we were not impressed by the lunch included in the Tot Montserrat. See if you can find some recent reviews.
