Montserrat Advice

We will be in Barcelona week of 18/11/2017-24/11/2017. One day we want to explore Montserrat. I have done some research and still have some questions. We will be staying in the Eixampe District. I understand that we can and should by tickets at Plaza Espanya. We would like to go up by cable car. So I understand that we take the train and get off at Aeri de Montserrat to catch the cable car. I have looked at the Montserrat web page and see there are many packages to Purchase. I was wondering if the TOT Montserrat is the way to go. Or what everyone else suggests. The page options were quite confusing I thought. Also we were thinking do this first thing in the morning and wondering how long we should allow for this adventure. So I would love advice and detailed guidance.

Also would it be wise to do Montjuic afterwards (Olympic Village).

As always thanks

We were there in 2013 and it sounds like the ticketing has changed so I’m no help there. We took the train up (transfer at the station). Not to oversell but I loved Montserrat for reasons that are hard to articulate. We were there about 4 hours. Be sure to take the tram down the hill to the stations and go all the way to the end to the chapel. The stations are created by different artist.

I was there about two weeks ago with my friends. We purchased the "Trans Montserrat" ticket from the machine at Placa Espanya, to go up by cable car. Don't stand in line for the person selling tickets as those tickets are only for the funicular, not the cable car. This option was quite a bit less expensive that the TOT Montserrat ticket. In addition to the train to Aeri de Montserrat and then the the cable car to Montserrat, the "Trans Montserrat" ticket lets you take the transportation from Montserrat to the other higher part of the mountain as well as the Santa Cova Cave. It did not include lunch or tickets to the museum, but you can purchase the museum tickets later if you choose to. The museum was not a priority for us. We took the time and waited for the Boy's Choir and while it is only a ten minute program, we enjoyed it. We took the 8:36 a.m. train from Placa Espanya and when we arrived on Montserrat, stopped by the cafeteria and had a little snack. Later in the day, there were extremely long lines at the cafeteria, so I'm glad we went by earlier. We also packed a small picnic lunch and ate it at the top of Montserrat mountain. We took the 4:45 p.m. train back to Placa Espanya, but we barely made it in time to catch the train, as there was a fairly long line to take the cable car back to Aeri de Montserrat, so plan accordingly. We felt that we had enough time for our day at Montserrat. It is a beautiful place and I know you'll enjoy your time there.
