Montserrat

We are planing a day trip to Montserrat while we are in Barcelona. Should we book ahead or is it fine to do it while there? We plan on going September 11 or 12th.

Montserrat is wonderful.

I suggest booking ahead but check the cancellation policy. And also be certain you know what is included in the price.

You want a. minimum of at least a full half day at Montserrat but if you have the time and budget, I suggest a. full day.

I booked a day tour with Spain Day Tours. It was supposed to be a half day Montserrat and half day Barcelona. The excursion was unprofessional and I did not get what promised. I did request some money back and they were very professional in returning some of money paid. But for this reason, I can not recommend Spain Day Tours.

You might have a better experience.

But when I was doing my research, many person gave Viator high grades.

One problem that I had was it was just me and often it is difficult to find excursions for one person. It is often much easier to book for two or more.

Montserrat is one of the most unforgettable day trips from Barcelona - you’re in for something special!

Since you’re planning to go on September 11 or 12, we recommend booking your tickets in advance - especially for the Black Madonna or any guided tour. September 11 is Catalonia’s National Day (La Diada), so Barcelona will be busy with celebrations and Montserrat can see more visitors than usual. Booking ahead means less time waiting and more time enjoying the views (and possibly catching the boys’ choir performance).

We’ve put together a complete guide that walks you through how to get there, the best things to do, ticket options, hiking routes, and tips for making the most of your visit, whether you prefer to join a guided tour or go on your own: The Complete Guide to Montserrat - Spain.

Hope you have an amazing time in Montserrat!
