Montressat - still too hot to hike now/ worth waiting for the choir?

Thinking about a day trip to Montressat. Still trying to understand the "rack" vs. "Funicular" etc..

We were really hoping to see the choir and hike but i am thinking that it is very, very crowded during the choir times and that it is likely way too hot to hike - we will be there next week, August 6h and onwards. I had initially hoped that up in the mountains it was cooler. Any thoughts?

It was extremely hot the day we traveled there in mid June. Nevertheless we took the funicular up and walked back down so at least we weren't hiking "up" in the heat. I enjoyed our time there even though it was rather crowded. The basilica is beautiful, and I wished we could have enjoyed a service with the choir.

Montserrat is a beautiful monastery and definitely worth a visit, including the boys' choir performance which I found great. It's popular for a reason and surely will be packed. The rack railway is a short ride and connects the last leg to the monastery. The funicular takes you from the monastery to above it. Follow the masses and take a deep breath now and then. More tourists than ever are overcrowding attractions.
