Month-long rental

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts about a one-month rental of a one or two bedroom apartment near the sea in mid-September to mid-October? My wife is retired, I am still working. If possible we would like to do something like the following: fly into Barcelona or Madrid and see the sights there for a few days, and then settle in with an apartment near the sea. I would then work remotely for a week or two with weekends and days off for day trips or weekend trips to nearby cities. She would like to be walking distance to the beach and possible have access to a pool for the time I'm working. Maybe there's a small town with a great historic center we can walk to, with good train and beach access. She would stay the 4th week by herself, and have a friend of hers come for that last week, while I go back home and get back to work.

Is this doable?

Hi- This may or may not be useful information but I'll let you know our experience. We have spent 4-7 weeks in Malaga each year over five winters and this info will also be pertinent for Sept/Oct though weather not the same, of course. We chose Malaga on a friend's recommendation and also due to transportation options. They have a fast train to Madrid and a local commuter train that has good connections to towns down along the coast. Looking at a map will show you the different towns and they are smaller than Malaga and perhaps more to your liking. We prefer Malaga (about half a million pop) as it has a number of sights and a nice historic center. There is usually something to keep us busy, plenty of restaurants, shopping, as well as the beach is close to the city center. If you want to explore further the bus system is great and can take you up to Nerja which is a smaller city and on the water with nice beaches. It's also close to Frigillana which I believe is a white hill town and worth a visit. We have taken the bus to Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla and stayed 2-3 nights each. We took the bus to Ronda this past winter for two nights and loved it. Look at the map and then do a search on YouTube and see which towns interest you. Your plan is certainly doable. There has been a drought in Spain so I'm not sure that all pools will be open. We always feel very safe, even walking independently at night, if that is a concern for you or your wife. You will have a wonderful time!

Would be better to split time between 2 or 3 cities to allow your wife to explore different places while you are working? Since you’re working remotely it shouldn’t matter if you move around a bit. That way you two can explore more of Spain and perhaps plant seeds of where you’d like to spend more time when you return after retirement.
