Month in Spain, where to stay?

Hi there,

me and my boyfriend are looking at spending a month (may-june) in Spain! | We are going to work remotely, and are in our mid 20's.

The places we are considering so far are Malaga, Almeria, Murcia, Granada, Valencia, and Marbella.

All we are really looking for is a relatively cheap city, with a nice beach!! If anyone has any suggestions, or knows which of the above cities would be the best to live in for a month, I would appreciate a reply :)

Thanks!

I would second Malaga. It has a decent airport. Keep in mind that even working remotely is a violation of the Schengen visa agreement but people do it so be very discrete.

Yes make sure you have the proper credentials and visa to work remotely from Spain, else you will be breaking the law.

Lucky for you Spain has recently introduced a digital nomad visa, for people like you to work remotely. You can apply for a digital nomad visa directly through a Spanish consulate or embassy in your home country. Alternatively, you can enter Spain on a tourist visa and apply within the first three months.

In addition to others' comments, Malaga's a college town, so it would have a vibrant, younger life on the street. Valencia would also be a good choice, but it would probably be the most expensive destination on your list.

I vote for Malaga as well. It's a beautiful city with many interesting sites to keep you busy and has a nice beach. A great location for day trips, too. You could easily take the train or bus to Granada for a night or two to see the Alhambra. Just keep in mind that you need to reserve your Alhambra tickets well in advance.

I love Spain, but frankly, was a bit disappointed by Costa Del Sol. The beaches there are not as good as California or Florida.

Marbella is where the rich go, and it is expensive.

From Malaga you can visit Rhonda and Granada, perhaps Valencia.

Seville and Toledo are my favorite cities in Spain.

Valencia is not visitable from Malaga. One would first have to take the train all the way up to Madrid, than change to another train east to Valencia.

"Cheap" is a very subjective term...it really depends on your country of origin (I´m assuming the USA) and what you like to spend your money in. Spain is no longer as cheap as it used to be. Expect monthly rates for an apartment (in Málaga center) of around 2500eur, if just for one month, in the outskirts it´ll be much cheaper. Almería is one of the cheapest places on the Mediterranean coast, it has beautiful beaches and lots of small, very cheap places to stay (off season). Again, the city is much more expensive than the country. And, compared to the US, you´ll find food, fruit, veggies and drinks quite affordable (a beer or a glass of wine is around 2-2.50eur in those places...except Marbella, which is quite expensive and not my kind of place for a cheap holiday).

If it doesn’t have to be a city and you’ll have transportation, then as an extension of what Mike said, consider a smaller town such as Mojácar, east of Almería. It has a nice beach. No idea about public transportation.
