Metro Apps and Train Travel Questions for Madrid/Barelona.

Hi,
On our first day in Barcelona in mid October, we are thinking of trying one of those Hop on/Hop off buses to help us get a lay of the land. Our tour doesn't include the Miro and Catalan Art museums in the Monjuic neighborhood or the beach area so we thought this might be a good way to see the area easily and quickly. I did just download the TMB app for the metro and buses but since I don't have much experience using public transportation, I'm not sure how adept I'll be at using this. I'm don't think the Rick Steves tour includes a metro pass but I'm open to buying one of the short-term options.

Can anyone recommend an app that is easy for a newbie like me to navigate the metro and public transportation system? I see that there is a Taxi Barcelona app and an AMB app for ordering rides as well.

Thanks so much.

I was in Barcelona in February and I did the HO/HO bus first day, and did like that it went through Montjuic, which I had little previous knowledge, so glad I did. Afterward, I used the Metro and just bought tickets out of the machines in the stations.

Hi TravelMom,

GeoffB on this forum mentioned using PideTaxi mobile app. If you search for his recent Spain trip report, you'll find the link and a bit of Geoff's commentary.

We downloaded the official transit app called TMB, but google maps and apple maps on the transit settings worked just fine. Buy a T- casual card with 10 rides for each person.
Watch youtube videos on using the barcelona metro and bus if you need a primer on using public transportation. You can reach the Miro museum easily via the metro and transfer to the funicular that goes up Montjuic. There are buses that go to barceloneta where the beaches are.

I saw an horrendous line of people waiting for the HO/HO bus at Placa de Catalunya back in 2016. There's no way all those people were going to fit on one bus, and there was no bus in sight. I'd plan to use public transportation in Barcelona. The Metro's easy. At Montjuic there are outdoor escalators that take you up to MNAC from near the Placa d'Espanya station.

I also went to the Miro Museum, but probably not on the same day. Google Maps suggests you'd want to exit MNAC from the rear door, then you'd have an 11-minute walk to the Miro Museum.
