Mediterranean Coast trip

We are planning a three-day trip down the coast in August from Barcelona to Zahara de los Atunes, just northwest of Tarifa, where we have booked an Airbnb to watch the total solar eclipse. What are the top coastal towns to visit? I have a suggestion of Altea, Nerja, Peniscola, Sitges, and Conil de la Frontera. What do you think? (We know that three days is not enough time to visit them all.)

Also, what are the rail connections like between those towns? Barcelona to Sitges seems straightforward, but I'm not sure about the others.

Why anybody would go to Barcelona when they want to end up in Zahara de Los Atunes escapes me. They’re on opposite sides of the country. One day will be used just getting from point A to B and that isn’t even taking a coastal route. In August all the beach towns will be crowded and there are too many nice ones to count.

Consider flying into Sevilla or Málaga instead, then renting a vehicle or taking a bus. Your trip, your choices.
