Medieval/Gothic Barcelona

We thought it would be a good idea to group some of Barcelona's medieval and gothic sites into a single morning or afternoon, in order to better appreciate the architecture and get a sense of the times. The Cathedral, Palau Reial Major, and Santa Maria del Mar have bubbled to the top within close proximity to each other. Any other surviving examples of medieval buildings, squares, statues, etc. within a nearby (1 mile-ish) radius? (I didn't include Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi, only because it seemed like it was mostly a modern reconstruction, but maybe I've read that wrong).

Later we'll probably visit Sant Pau del Camp and other sites further afield.

Thanks!

Thanks avirosemail. Definitely some interesting sites. Plus, researching those led me to the Museu Frederic Marès, which I had overlooked and seems to have a fantastic medieval collection (along with all sorts of other stuff). Also curious if anyone has visited the Museo Diocesà de Barcelona. We do intend to visit The Catalonian National Art Museum on another day, so the Museo Diocesà de Barcelona AND the Museu Frederic Marès, might be overkill (even for us), but let me know if anyone thinks we'd be seriously missing out...

Visit the Monastery of Pedralbes. It's in Rick Steves guide book. We took bus#64 from Barceloneta, but check with tourist office since we were there in 2006. We loved this place. It's from the 1300's

I'm a big fan of medieval history myself too, but you seem to have most of the big sites noted already.

However I'd recommend taking a look at the Maritime museum of Barcelona, outside of its interesting exhibits on sailing and shipbuilding from the 13th century to the 18th century, The museum itself is housed in the medieval Royal arsenal of Barcelona, constructed in the Gothic style between the 13th and 14th centuries, the building itself has mostly been preserved since. Probably the largest medieval building in the city.

Another history buff here.

Summary of suggestions -some already mentioned:

... a bit out of the way, but at merely 45' by high-speed train from Barcelona, in GIRONA you have one of the best preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe, the second-largest Jewish community in Catalonia which played an essential role from the 10th until the 15th century. https://wonderfulwanderings.com/girona-photo-essay/ and https://patrimoni.gencat.cat/en/collection/medieval-girona

... and if the Roman period is your "thing", then you MUST visit TARRAGONA, also at 45' or so by high-speed train (plus a taxi/bus to the city centre): https://visitworldheritage.com/en/eu/tarragona-and-the-archaeological-ensemble-of-tarraco-spain/e8fe2640-81c3-48ac-8902-c85ef7a20f75 and https://patrimoni.gencat.cat/en/collection/tarraco

Wow Enric! This is amazing. It will take me a while to go through all of these, but thank you! Truly above and beyond...

Probably the single best medieval site in Catalonia is 1:30 hr just outside of Barcelona, hardly known to foreigners, is the Poblet Royal Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and still active 12th-century Cistercian monastery. It was a fortified medieval royal residence and contains the unique hanging tombs of the royal pantheon of the Kings and Queens of Aragon. There are onsite guided tours in English and even a winery run by the monks.

A must do daytrip for a medieval history buff - https://www.thewholeworldisaplayground.com/poblet-monastery-day-trip-barcelona-unesco/
