May 28 to June 6 in Barcelona (Question on Valencia)

I’m incredibly excited to be making my first trip to Spain within the next couple weeks and have my itinerary pretty well planned out. I’m pretty set on day trips to Girona and Montserrat, but am still on the fence on doing an overnight to Valencia.

I’d leave early to go and leave late coming back the following day, but I’m not sure if it’s worth investing two days of the trip. Part of my concern is that with the Primavera Sound festival going until 5 AM, it’ll throw off some of the other plans in Barcelona. Any opinions on if it’s worth the trip? Thank you in advance.

I loved Valencia and consider it worth at least one night. It is different in character and culture than Barcelona - more Spanish than Catalan. Excellent food if that interests you. A more laid back atmosphere, definitely less crowded. I really enjoyed just relaxing at cafes on the main plazas/boulevards eating tapas and drinking sangria. Their market hall is awesome. If architecture interests you at all, be sure to check out the Science Complex by local but famous architect Santiago Calatrava. It's a bus ride away, but a surreal place. And given how much time you have in Barcelona, you can likely spare a couple days.
