Mallorca Detour?

Hi, my husband and I are planning a 21-24 day trip in late September, early October to travel to Spain and southern Portugal. Most of our time will be spent in Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Granada and Sevilla. However, we were wondering if a two to three day side trip to Mallorca makes sense, as a substitute for spending a couple of days in the Costa Brava area north of Barcelona. Or, should we add a day or two more to Granada and Sevilla instead? I have heard that Mallorca is beautiful, but Rick Steves does not mention it in his book. Any thoughts?

I think Mallorca would be a wonderful option at this time for a minimum stay of 3 nights (to be worth the effort).

Do it. Rent a car and drive around. Awesome place. Well worth the short flight. Once you get out of Palma, it's like going back in time. Utterly unspoiled.

Thanks for the encouragement. Where do you recommend we stay, and what are your favorite beaches? Thanks!

Where you stay might be dictated by how much you wish to spend, and where you wish to hang out? Too subjective for me to answer.

We stayed here. For our purposes, it was great.

It's a small island. Explore. Find YOUR favorite beach. But in my mind, the island is about the people and the wine and is not necessarily a beach destination.

I can recommend a fabulous, sunset dinner spot. I strongly suggest reservations so you can sit on the small balcony. http://www.ilparadiso.es/ It may be the best Mediterranean view we've experienced....and we've traveled a bit.

Have fun.
