Mallorca - 10 days in August

Hello. I am planning a trip to Mallorca with my hubby for 10 days to celebrate our anniversary (August 23- Sept 2). We will be renting a car. I'm looking for advice on where to stay near the beach. I am a go-getter, I want to see and experience everything. I love water sports, history, and architecture. My husband, on the other hand, is more laid back. He wants to see a few things each day and then relax near a beach. Is it best to have a home base and then do day trips and see the entire island that way? Or do you see more if you stay as you go? Also, resort or Airbnb? I want access to a pool with amenities and my husband is super social and loves meeting people and hanging out with other couples. This is our 30th Wedding Anniversary (we got married young), so we prefer nicer places.

thank you.

Stay in a resort rather than an Airbnb. The Balearic Islands (and Canary Islands) are experiencing problems with locals struggling to afford places to live due to Airbnb and the like. Besides, with a resort you'll have pool access and the amenities that comes with it as well as offering the potential for your husband to socialise which really isn't going to be something that a private let can offer.

The island is very easy to explore by car and nowhere on the island is more than 2 1/2 hours from one point to another which means day trips are very easy to do. I've been visiting Mallorca for over 20 years and have done day trips from a single base all the time, there really is no need to relocate.

We stay at Marriott's timeshare resort in Llucmajor. It's not a beach resort, you'll need a car to reach the beach however there are plenty of pools and we like the villa style accommodation which offers seperate bedroom and living areas including a full size kitchen as opposed to a hotel room (plus it was so much better with young children). As we own several weeks here we don't stay anywhere else so I can't offer any recommendations for resorts other than to say that there are plenty of luxury places all over the island.

I would recommend avoid staying in Palma, it's a fantastic city to visit but it's a bit too bustling for a relaxing stay plus the traffic is very busy. There's a huge underground car park on the main coastal road into the city that leads you out into the shadow of the cathedral so that's the perfect place to leave the car when you visit and saves you from the stress and hassle of trying to find somewhere to park in the city centre.

My stay in Majorca was a while ago and therefore cannot recommend a hotel. End of August is peak season and therefore you should book ASAP. Sept is no longer low season.
