Malaga Travel Tips

Hi
1. What's the best mode of transportation between Malaga and Granada?
2. Is there any travel card/pass for Malaga that covers all modes of transportation within the city?
3. What would be better/efficient route Seville to Malaga to Granada OR Seville to Granada to Malaga? Geographically Seville to Malaga to Granada route seems to be more efficient.

Thank you in advance!

For transportation I recommend either the fast-speed trains or the ALSA buses. The buses are clean, comfortable, air-conditioned, and reliable. I would choose based on which one has the best schedule.

Malaga is a very walkable city. We walked everywhere.

Regarding which routing is the more efficient, again, it really depends on the train/bus schedules and the rest of your itinerary. Where are you flying into and out of?

For example, our routing was Granada/Malaga/Seville. Seville was last because we flew home from Seville. And we were in Cordoba before Granada, so after Cordoba, we did Granada/Malaga/Seville.

Thanks for your reply. We are flying in and out of Barcelona. Here is what my preliminary 2 weeks itinerary looks like.
Barcelona to Madrid to Seville to Malaga to Granada to Valencia and back to Barcelona.
Thanks for the bus transportation tips. Will definitely be taking buses.

Granada to Valencia by train is fastest if you make a connection in Madrid. Buses running closer to the coast are an option and take about the same amount of time. That's what I opted for in 2019, but I ran into a couple of problems:

  • The fare was surprisingly high. I learned later that I might have saved a good bit of money by splitting the ticket at some intermediate point.

  • The bus left somewhat late and the driver decided to try to make up time by skipping all but the first comfort stop (which was shortly after we left Granada); it was an 8-hour ride. I managed by hopping off the bus at every opportunity and literally running to the toilet and back, because I didn't know when the next opportunity would come. I was not a happy camper. Not all buses have on-board toilets, and when there is a toilet, it may well be kept locked. Yes, I know drivers are required to take breaks, but this one didn't stop long enough for a passenger to walk to and from a toilet inside the bus station.
