Malaga, Spain in October

3 couples of us are traveling to Malaga for the first time. We are active 60 somethings. Will be there for 4 nts/3 days and have a rental car. Planning on getting a local walking tour guide for Oct 12, driving to Camino Del Rey for Oct 13, driving to Granada on Oct 14. Questions: is Oct 12 a big holiday? for Malaga or all of Spain?; day tour guide recommendations?; any need for booking a tour to Camino Del Rey if we have our own car? What else should we plan in Granada besides visiting Alhambra, time to allot for this? Recommendations for outstanding flamenco in Malaga? Malaga tapas or dinner recommendations?
Thank you, Lulu

Tickets for Caminito del Rey can be purchased on-line they have a website. I chose to park at the end, and bus to the entrance, that way we could just get in the car and leave when we were hot and tired and not bus back to the entrance of the hike where most people parked their car. No tour is needed you could not get lost if you tried, there are employees stationed every little bit to make sure people have their helmets on and are observing all the rules. Grandad is the funniest place on earth, the town and the people are the site just one notch down from the Alhambra itself. Try to schedule your trip to be in Granada on the weekend when all the buskers are out and the locals are dancing in the square, wedding parties etc. The monastery (sorry don't recall the name but the info is in RS book) should not be missed, nor should the tombs of Isabel and Ferdan. Malaga is only worth one night to me, 2 if you use one day to walk the Caminito del Rey, Granada deserves 3 nights. J

I did my go-to thing and googled it . . . . wiki page

I didn't read it all but two sentences particularly struck my eye, in light of your question:

"National Day of Spain is a holiday throughout the entire country, so all central (national) government's and autonomous communities' (provincial) institutions and administration offices are closed on that day, as are banks and stores. National Day is massively celebrated in Spain through numerous public and private events organized throughout the country to praise the nation's heritage, history, society and people." (oops, that's 2)

"While National Day is celebrated exclusively on October 12, the national holiday takes, with no exceptions, a long weekend (at least 3 days), for the citizens' leisure and enjoyment. Taking advantage of the short vacation, many people travel in Spain on these days, especially to visit other cities and symbolic places within the country." (oops, 2 again).

The bold font is mine, not wiki's. It sounds like a really fun time to be in Spain. Just take into all into consideration.
