My sis and I are considering going in June. I was there for a day trip last summer and wanted to go back- really seemed like a cool place. Besides Picasso Museum (both of them), the beach, what else is a "must see?" I seem to remember Roman ruins, though we were in a rush and weren't able to do a tour last time. Specifically looking for hotel recommendations and must see sites. My sister and I are culture vultures, and we'll be stopping beforehand in Madrid to do museums there.
Thanks in advance for tips!
Right above the Roman ruins are muslin ruins. A must! Also, the Thyssen Museum is lovely. Not many major artists, like at the Madrid Thyssen, but wonderful Spanish works. The historical botanical gardens north of the old center are nice. The paved beach walk goes a long way.
I'm a fan of decorative arts and liked the Museum of Glass and Crystal.
I didn't have time for the Alcazaba, which others have reported liking.
At the time of my 2019 visit, there wasn't much of anything to see in the Museo Casa Natal de Picasso (Picasso's birthplace). It was a waste of time.
There are a lot of other art museums, including a branch of the Pompidou.
You don't give a hotel budget, but let me start you off with this one. Lovely hotel, very central, amazing roof terrace with bar.

Have a look at Booking.com for choices - there is a relatively new trendy area called SoHo.
As well as the main sights, just wandering through the streets of the old city, having a drink here and a tapa there, is great fun.
The cathedral is impressive.
In the spring we have reservations at Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro at the end of the trip. It’s right by the castle. Other places I have in bookmarked to visit include the Alcazaba, Roman theater, plaza de la Constitución, the cathedral, Mercado de Ararazanas, and Calle Larios
We absolutely loved our walk to the top of the Alcazaba! It was a highlight of our trip. The cathedral is very impressive. Take a walk along the seaside promenade and have drinks at sunset overlooking the harbor.
We loved Malaga! It’s an underrated city with a beautiful historic center.
