I'm spending two days in Malaga after flying in from Barcelona. Are there any recommended hotels or hostels anyone has stayed at? Rick's 2013 Spain book didn't mention any recommended places to stay in Malaga.

Malaga has not made the cut of Rick's favorite places and in fact, he gives it a frowny-face in the Costa del Sol chapter of the book. Sorry, no personal favorites among our staff.

Any directory style web site will give reviews of accommodation in Malaga, a fine and, generally, overlooked city.
www.booking.com for example where reviews can only be provided by those who have statyed at a premises.
Without knowing your budget or what else you want from your accommodation I can only suggest the IBIS Centro, where my wife and I stay a couple of nights each year and is cheap enough booked in advance.

Try concentrating on hostals (note spelling) and see what happens.
