Malaga-Cordoba-Seville (spend the night) - gibraltar - Malaga in two days????

Our home base is Malaga and we have a car. I am thinking of leaving early Saturday 6/20/15 and heading to Cordoba for the mid day activities. Then jumping back in the car and heading to Seville for the evening and spend the night. Then getting up the next morning and after a leisurly breakfast head to Gibraltar to see the monkeys. Then make it back to Malaga for dinner. Does any of this make sense? Will I be able to see what we need to see?

Very much appreciate your opinions.

Thanks - Randy

You will probably be a bit rushed, but the highway system is good... just not sure about parking in your locations. While I usually have a car I did this area with a group of photographers and we had a bus. I love this part of Spain and there is so much to do... We did not see the monkeys...with so many beautiful hilltowns to see in Andalusia I am not sure I would choose the monkeys. But others can comment on that. I really loved staying in Malaga. Nice shopping, a variety of good restaurants and a really lovely town.

It an be done but why? I hope your event in Cordoba is seeing the Mezquita which can be done in a couple of hours and is the best thing IMHO in Spain. What are you doing in Seville? Against this is a town filled with interesting things to see -- the Alcazar which rivals the Alhambra in beauty, the Cathedral and Tower etc. Will you have time to see Seville with this plan?

Alternatively I could do gibraltar later in the week as a day trip, and just focus on Seville and Cordoba. Full day in each. If I do that, which town should I spend the night in?

We also base out of Malaga and rent cars for travels throughout the region. That said, if we are going "point to point" we use public transportation due to less stress and often more economical. From the journey you described an inordinant amount of time will be spent in the car vs time actually visiting the destinations. So the question is "what are you striving to achieve via this mode of travel?"

A few Sevilla sights are open late, to help you see more on the evening of arrival, but I would still want to stay in Sevilla as late as possible on Sunday before driving the 3 hours back to Malaga. If you did this whole route by train and returned by the 19:30 train from Sevilla to Malaga, you could bring a picnic onboard.

ok. im convinced to cancel my rental car and take the train to cordoba, and then to Seville, and then back to Malaga. But I am still wondering if I should spend then night in Cordoba and get a morning train to Seville for a day trip there, or make the day trip Cordoba and catch an evening train to seville and spend the night in Seville.

Our choice would be to spend the night in Seville, but Chani (a respected poster) prefers Cordoba. Short answer, you cannot go wrong w either choice.

We loved Cordoba and had one of the best meals there. It is beautiful at night also. We were no impressed with Gibraltar and would have rather spent more time in Cordoba and Seville.
