Malaga and ??? over the holidays

I have ~10 days in between Christmas and New Years off.

Last year at that time we went to the Costa Blanca and enjoyed it a lot despite the weather being somewhat volatile. That trip was Barcelona, hiking in the Maria Alta, New Year's eve in Denia, and finishing the trip is wonderful Alicante.

Thinking about Malaga this year, but where else could we go? Thought about combining Malaga with Nerja, mainly for a change of scenery, however Nerja is just down the road. Would it be worth switching locations? Granada seems like it could be too cold at that time of year. We've been to Ronda/Zahara and that area hiking. Enjoyed it but not looking to return at this time. I am not opposed to spending the entire time in Malaga either and renting an apartment.

Due to the early sunsets I've found that a city location is much more preferable than rural due to the availability of nighttime activities which is mainly walking around and looking at the Christmas decorations and going out for dinner.

Any ideas on other places we could consider?

As you have discovered, the weather is not guaranteed at that time.
Cities are better for that, and for the shorter days, as you say.
Malaga is great, with a lot to see, but perhaps not for ten days.
Yes, Granada would be cold, but wrap up! Easy train journey from Malaga.
Another thought might be Valencia.

I like to combine Malaga with Cordoba & Sevilla. Cordoba is just an hour by train and will give you a nice contrast with Malaga, and Sevilla (a favorite) is just about the same distance by train from Cordoba. I really like Cadiz, too, but I imagine the weather would be very blustery during that time of year.

We went to Nerja in 2017. That would be low on my list compared to other coastal choices.

León, Burgos, Salamanca, Logroño, Oviedo, or Gijón might be worth looking into.

I would add a combination of Seville, Granada, and Cordoba, the 3 crown jewels of Andalusia. If that is too many destinations for roughly 10 days, can you add an extra day or two? Or research all 3 cities and decide which cities interest you the most. Top sights in each place are the Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Cordoba, and the Real Alcazar in Seville. And each city has other interesting historical and cultural sights as well. You could easily visit Granada as a daytrip from Malaga. As someone else suggested, bundle up! The Alhambra is worth it.
