I haven't been to Mallorca so I cannot help, but I did enough preliminary investigation for a potential visit to know that there's a lot to see on the island, and there are guidebooks devoted to just the Balearic Islands. It sounds as if you're staying on Malloca for some time, so I'm sure you'd benefit from a guidebook.

Yes! I'm there usually about twice a year, heading there for the May half term and just spent Christmas and the New Year there.

I could write plenty (and have done for some people who never replied!) but it's best if I narrow things down to what interests you and what you want to get out of the island.

In my opinion it's an often underrated island with many people's perception of it being all about Magaluf (a resort near Palma which caters for young Brits intent on drinking their body weight and more in alcohol and getting laid) and to a lesser degree the German equivalent of S'Arenal. Fortunately both areas are easily identifiable and easily avoided thereby allowing the rest of us to enjoy the rest of it.

It's a varied island with the mountains to the north and the flatter, quieter land to the south and southwest. The capital, Palma is one of the best cities in Spain in my opinion and crams a lot into its relatively small size. Driving in Mallorca is a pleasure as even in the height of tourist season the roads can be relatively quiet with the exception of the area in and around Palma which is always busy. Nowhere is more than 1.5 hours away from any point on the island so it makes for easy exploration. Hiring a car is probably best done from the airport as it has the greatest choice and it's easy to get straight onto the motorway.

I can offer no advice on accommodation as we always stay at the Marriott timeshare resort where we own two weeks, they provide two and three bedroom villas with full kitchens and separate dining and living areas so it's ideal for families with young children. However my favourite part of the island is the mountains so that's where I would be seeking accommodation if I was coming as a first timer.

The weather is great in late April and May, you might find the evenings a bit cool but certainly during the day it's pool weather.
