Madrid Toledo Segovia Barcelona route

We will be staying in Madrid and would like to visit Segovia and Toledo. One would be a a day trip round trip Madrid one would be a 1 night overnight, the following day we would travel to Barcelona. Any tips on which is the overnight, lodging suggestions, and if we could continue from there directly to Barcelona? Thank you.

According to Renfe, the trains to Segovia leave from Charmatin, so it makes more sense logistically to stay overnight in Toledo since you are then at Atocha for the Barcelona train. Allow at least 1/2 hour for the Atocha connection. BTW there are lockers at Atocha, so you could leave most of your stuff there and take a small overnight bag to Toledo. I can't compare the two towns, but I loved Toledo for 2 nights.

The only caveat is that if you are planning to travel on a weekend, there are no early morning trains out of Toledo.

Carrie Jane,

I agree with Chani.

Toledo is one of my favorite cities (along with Córdoba), and it's lovely in the late afternoon/evening once all the day trippers depart.

I took Chani's advice & we left one of our carry-on suitcases in a locker at the Atocha train station for our 5 night stay in Toledo.

Here is a map of the Atocha train station. The left luggage, 'Consigna', is #5 ( green) on the ground floor, past the tropical gardens, near Burger King.

Have a wonderful trip!

Chani, remind me to rethink if we consider a journey together. I never make bookings before 10am, and preferably not even before midday. lol
