We are taking a Portugal/Spain tour ending in Madrid. We are spending two extra nights in Madrid on Sunday and Monday. Tues we're on a train to Barcelona. The formal tour includes tours of the palace in Madrid and the Prado. I'd like to go to Toledo for one of the extra days but can't decide whether to do it Sun or Mon. More sites are open there on Sun but then so many are closed in Madrid on Monday so I'm not sure which day to do which city. I know the Reina-Sofia is open Mon so that's one possibility along with some shopping since the stores would be open. Ideas?
We just returned from a Sunday day trip to Toledo. Lots of tourists and local families. Place was packed, noisy and hot. We still enjoyed the trip. Mondays could be less crowded but some places might be closed. (The military museum is closed to repair fire damage). Cathedral another over-the-top gold-encrusted edifice celebrating town vs town. But WOW! Worth it. Ate at forum recommended La Malqueridea de la Trinidad - very good, plentiful, crowded and noisy. In fact, we are agreed that the Spain we have seen ( Barcelona, Grenada, Seville, Cordoba & Madrid) in the last month is the noisiest (except in churches) in our experiences of Europe. Even so, wouldn't have missed it.
Thanx Larry.
