My wife and I are flying into Madrid mid-September and want to spend a few days in Tarifa before joining a RS tour in Cordoba. I would appreciate this group's advise on getting from Madrid to Tarifa (train?) and then up to Cordoba on a Sunday.
Thanks in advance.

No train stops in Tarifa. You'd have to take the train from Madrid to Algeciras and then take a bus to Tarifa.
From Tarifa to Cordoba, you take the bus but it's an excruciating ride of about 6 hours or more.....there is at least one direct bus and others require a change.
Can I be nosy and ask why you want to visit Tarifa?? I ask this because if you want to spend time in the region prior to meeting in Cordoba, there are quite a few other destinations that are easier to reach from Madrid by train, and in my opinion, are much more interesting than Tarifa...unless you are a windsurfer or plan to take the Tangiers ferry.
ekscrunchy got there before I did!
Tarifa is a half day visit, in my view, unless you have some specific reason for being there (and I lived half an hour away!).
Think about Malaga, great city with beaches and much of interest, with good travel connections.
I appreciate your answers. We picked Tarifa because we want to take a day trip to Gibraltar and another to Tanger. I guess I'm looking at the train schedules wrong because all I see is one to Malaga and then a two hour bus ride. Has anyone found a direct train from Madrid to Algeciras?
They don't seem to have loaded all the September trains yet.
In August, there is just one direct Madrid/Algeciras a day.
Same showing for Algeciras/Cordoba in July, nothing later.
All journeys are 5/6 hours.
This info is from Trainline.
You might want to search the forum for opinions on Tanger and Gib, and perhaps wonder whether the effort is worth it!
My own view is that Tanger isn't, Gib might be.
