We will be in Madrid three nights before flying home on October 24, 2026. We plan to take a day trip to Segovia on Monday, October 11th and looking ahead at several days between now and the it appears there are always trains between the cities priced at about 14 to 15 euros. Any reason to buy these tickets very far ahead? I know there is a big holiday in Spain that day, but the prices at this point seem to be steadily priced.
I just bought my ticket day of travel, but that was in 2017. It was the weekend of their Nov 9 Madrid anniversary, but there was no crowds. I did take the slow train from Atocha. There used to be 2 train depots in Segovia. Not sure what the current set up is. Rick's book used to cover the details very well.
We took the bus from Madrid to Segovia because the bus station is an easy walk to most sites. I think the bus was also less expensive.
No need to buy ahead, or at least far ahead. Just be aware, that to buy a ticket requires entering your passport number and some other details. It takes a bit of time at a machine, might be easier to do on the app.
I'm traveling a few weeks prior to you, I just went to book my train from Seville to Madrid to return home and found that a few busy times in the morning were booked. I have a morning train, which I imagine is busier, and have a time constraint, but that is reason enough for me. I've been looking over the last month and haven't really noticed a big increse in price, which is one thing a lot of people talk about.
