Madrid to Santiago de Compostela: Best way to get there?

My 85 year old friend is now doing the full Camino Santiago trail. I want to surprise her when she arrives in Santiago de Compostela. I arrive from USA to Madrid Sunday morning 6/9. I see there is a flight to Santiago 2 hours after I arrive. Is it reasonable to think I would have enough time to make the connection? What are my best train alternatives? I've never been to Spain before.

If you're self connecting, 2 hours sounds a bit risky. If it's on a single ticket it should work.

Otherwise there are direct trains from Chamartín station, including one at 2.30 PM. It is quick and easy to get to Chamartín from Madrid Barajas airport.
