Madrid to San Sebastian

Flying into Madrid on 6/23, 8:15 am arrival. Seeing a concert in San Sebastian the next night.

Should I:

  1. Try to catch 10:15 am train to SS that morning?
  2. Wait to catch 2:45 train that afternoon?
  3. Fly the next morning on Iberia at 7:30 am ($77)
  4. Take a car?

Tell me if you think an overnight flight from NYC and then a 5-6 hour train ride is too much. Or just push through and not spend part of another day traveling on the 24th since I have to fly back on 7/1?

Leaving 7/1 back in Madrid. Never been to Spain (but I kind of like the music). Want to spend last two days, (6/29-30) in Madrid.
Looking for ideas for the 4 days (6/25-28) in between San Sebastian and Madrid??

I'd do it all the same day, or you'd waste time to-ing and fro-ing.
I'd have thought that 10.15 might be cutting it very fine, given that the plane may be late and then you've got to get through the airport.
(I also can't see a 10.15 on trainline).
If you get a transferable ticket it might be worth trying.
There is also a direct bus at 13.30.

For your spare days, I'd recommend Bilbao and Burgos.

Have you already purchased your plane ticket from the US? I flew directly to San Sebastian to begin my trip, then SS to Madrid for the return to US. (Or Biarritz or Bilbao?)

For some reason, buses are quite ignored by US visitors, but it's an excellent cheap, frequent and comfortable option.
