I would definitely suggest Granada. I was hoping to get to Valencia this trip but it didn't work out, as it looks like a great city.

We are going in August and want to get to the hill towns (Ronda, Arcos, etc). If you have time, I would suggest spending a day or so and go into Morocco or over to the Algarve in Portugal.

Do you like wine, because the Rioja wine area is near Madrid.

Thanks for the replys,,First to the misspelling of Granada thanks yeah I know Grenada is in the Caribbean I have sailed there many times on my saiboats must have been a Freudian slip. The plan is an outline but we definitely are all about the small cities just looking for feedback on those so we have an idea where it is cool to stop.Yeah we have definitely considered jumping over to Portugal...It looks like there are two large preserves on that route.Like between Ameria and Granada and maybe start to head back towards Madrid instead further west.Or go as far west as Malaga then up.Let me know of adventures in August.we plan on going in April.any feed back is great.

I am curious. Initially you discuss art, architecture, etc, then in your recent reply you mention 'preserves'. Are the national parks of interest to you? If so, then you should look at accessing Donana national park that is a UNESCO site. It is west of Jerez and SW of Seville. I haven't been yet (Nov 2017), but as a bird watcher, my one birding day is a private guide for the day from Seville to Donana. Others go for the mammals still running wild. Sadly there was some extensive fires this month, but a lot of area was not affected.
If sherry is on your 'wine' list - Jerez should be considered as well as Cadiz.
Malaga has a lot of history and if you can avoid the beach area that seems to be a small sub country of Britain you will find Roman and Moorish history and architecture.
How were you wanting to get around? Local transport or car?
Sorry - have to also comment on 'Saville'.. I was wondering if you had a hand made suit in mind (Saville Row) ;-)
