Madrid to Cadiz Train

We are traveling in May and arriving at Madrid Airport around 3:45pm. Need to get to Cadiz and been looking at train schedules not sure if we can go direct or have to go to Sevilla first. We are thinking of a train after getting out of airport and luggage around the 4:45pm time. I looked at Renfe site but still not sure of schedule times. Thank you ahead.

Although you need to use Renfe.com or a re-seller like trainline.eu to price out your tickets, I find it easier to use the Deutsche Bahn website to see what stops the trains make.

It appears that the ALVIA trains do not require you to change in Seville, but the AVEs do. You'll save a bit of time on the ALVIA, and just looking at one day in February (since May tickets are not yet on sale), it appears that you might pay less for the ALVIAs as well. There are trains at 5 PM (too early unless a miracle occurs at Barajas), 6 PM, 6:35 PM (an ALVIA!) and 7 PM.

That schedule (which might vary, depending on the day of the week you are traveling) would make me nervous, since you might encounter a delay of an hour or longer on the flight and then a slow line at Immigration. Must you go all the way to Cadiz on your arrival day? Stuff could go wrong.

Note that if you buy a promo-fare ticket in advance, it will be partly or totally non-refundable/non-changeable, so if you miss that train, you'll have to buy a new ticket at the walk-up fare.

Edited to add: But if you absolutely must be in Cadiz that night and are stuck with flying in on the same morning, I guess the best thing to do would be to go ahead and buy a ticket on the last train as soon as you can. It would be really, really bad if you arrived at Barajas and discovered when you reached the train station that the remaining train(s) that day were sold out.

The time flies when you are on Airport arriving. I reccommend you strongly to take an Hotel or Airbnb on Madrid, relax and depart the next day, more easy

I will do the same schedule, and I decide 2 days in Madrid

Good Look!

Overnight in Madrid. Your arrival time is too late to safely plan onward travel that day.

Your earliest train connection the following morning ...

AVE 2070
Dep 07:00 MADRID-PUERTA DE ATOCHA (Spain)
Arr 09:32 SEVILLA-SANTA JUSTA (Spain)

TRN13079
Dep 09:45 SEVILLA-SANTA JUSTA (Spain)
Arr 11:26 CADIZ (Spain)

Not certain where you’re coming from when arriving in Madrid, but maybe switch your arrival airport to Sevilla or Jerez. Either of those airports would be closer.
