We have one day/night in Spain. What might we see, where might we stay? I was thinking near Plaza Mayor, although not into the party scene. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Would we want to take the train, taxi, or is there a Bla Bla car suggested?
I think it's 1/2 from the airport, but I think that is fine.
The metro is an easy way to get from the airport to the city center, if that's what you mean by train or taxi. It depends upon what you like but for me the Prado is one of the great art museums of Europe. Also the Parque de Buen Retiro is great, especially if you are there on a weekend day. Palacio Real is worth considering. I have always had good luck staying in the Plaza Santa Ana area. Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol area are worth seeing. You could actually have a great day just walking around, without paying to enter any sights. There seem to be a lot of hostales which is a small family run hotel (not to be confused with hostel) , in a very reasonable price range in Madrid. Madrid is the NYC and D.C. of Spain rolled into one, and getting a clean, modern, yet humble hotel for $100 a night is highly do-able.
Thank you so much! Currently looking into staying in Plaza Santa Ana. Much appreciated.
Do you know how far it is to the airport?
Plaza Santa Ana is a great location.
Close by to metro at Anton Martin.
Line 1 to Tribunal, then change.
Line 10 to Nuevos Ministerios, then change.
Line 8 to Barajas Airport.
Allow an hour.
