My husband and I are traveling to Spain for 8 days in mid April. We fly in and out of Madrid. Our tentative plan is a few nights in Madrid, train to Seville for 4 nights ( to allow for a day trip to ?) and return to Madrid by train for 1 night prior to departure. I am looking for suggestions of things "not to miss" in our two main cities, and your top pick for a day trip from Seville. Hoping for somewhere beautiful and somewhat quiet for a relaxing day of Spanish life. Can't wait for your suggestions; muchas gracias.
I'd recommend visiting beautiful Córdoba, for at least an overnight, en-route to Sevilla.
Keep in mind that hotels in Sevilla will book way in advance due to Semana Santa (Holy week).
I'd recommend taking the train to Córdoba, or Sevilla, on day of arrival, and leaving Madrid to the end of your trip.
Do you have guidebooks for reference? You may consider checking out your local library for such, as they are full of information ;-)
Have a wonderful trip!
P.S. Do you plan to take day trips from Madrid?
Edit to add...
Here are a couple of interesting websites about Madrid and Sevilla
If you have 8 nights, then spend 4 nights in each, but head straight to Sevilla on arrival. It's only 2.5 hours by high speed AVE train. This lets you consolidate all your time in Madrid.
Day 1 - Arrive Madrid. To Sevilla - 4 nights
Day 2 - Sevilla
Day 3 - Cordoba
Day 4 - Jerez
Day 5 - Train to Madrid - 4 nights
Day 6 - Madrid
Day 7 - Toledo
Day 8 - Segovia
Day 9 - Depart Madrid
I'd recommend looking at a calendar first. Semana Santa is a huge deal in Andalucia and one of the two biggest weeks (i.e. most expensive, most crowded) of the year in Sevilla, starting with Palm Sunday and culminating with Easter Sunday. Are you going to be in Spain before, during or after that?
