Madrid Overnight Entertainment Recomendations

Greetings,

Wife and I have a stopover in Madrid Friday 13th of Sept. We will arrive Madrid airport at 2 PM. I have booked a room in Madrid airport for overnight. Our flight leaves next day at 11AM this will allow us a good 8-9 evening hours to explore Downtown Madrid before we head back to our hotel.

I am looking for evening activities in Madrid proper that would be entertaining and or memorable. We were initially planning on Tapas bar "hopping" early evening but remembered that most Madrid restaurants close between 4 and 8pm. We now are thinking about 5- 6PM of one of many Walking tours till 8pm where we would then do Madrid Rooftop bars. We did Flamenco in last visit to Madrid and was NOT to our liking.

Any recommendations of entertainment in Madrid.

One can get tapas in any bar and they don’t close. If you’ve never been to Madrid and with your limited time, consider just walking around the Plaza Mayor, then the Puerto del Sol area over to the Gran Vía for some people watching. The restaurants in the Plaza Mayor are tourist oriented and most will be open any time you walk by. The pedestrian only street between the Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía has plenty of stores to look in. While in the area consider going to the Lookout at El Corte Inglés on the 9th floor. You can get food and drinks there too. It’s pretty much right at Plaza del Callao

I’m in full agreement about flamenco. Five minutes of it is four too many.

Greetings,

We have been to Mardrid couple years ago. We have specific amazing local Tapas restaurants we enjoyed in past that we would like to revisit, they all close at 4 and open at 8. While I am sure we can find places open to eat, I am looking for activities that will make our evening memerable. Any sugestions?

No suggestions. We just walk around in the evening and people watch, or sit outdoors at a cafe and have a glass of wine. That’s sufficient entertainment for us. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance.

So sorry that a few of you do not like flamenco. It is a beautiful, challenging, and wonderful art form that is celebrated and appreciated around the world. The passion of the Spanish character is often present in its art.

We were just in Madrid a few weeks ago and booked the Walks Tapas and Flamenco tour. It was a great experience:

I like the Walks tours a LOT because they choose excellent sites to visit, and have very good guides. They also offer other food tours with tapas and wine. When you are short on time, it is nice to have everything organized. Be aware--most do have a bit of walking!

What else does one do in Madrid for the afternoon and evening? You could take a Madrid tour by Tuk-Tuk--certainly memorable and fun. You could book an evening walking tour--very popular. There is even a Spanish Inquisition/Ghost walking tour. If you are more athletic, you could take a guided evening bike tour.

If you hustled you could definitely make it to one or two of the major museums (Prado, Reina Sofia) for a few hours, since they close at 7 PM or 8 PM.

You could peacefully visit El Retiro Park, or perhaps check out the Temple of Debod.

Late night I would always head out to a dance club, and then stop for chocolate and churros at dawn.

I suppose my list is endless, but then I love Madrid, and could not imagine just being there for one day.

Buen viaje!

Prado, Reina Sofia, Archeology Museum, Cerralbo, bunch of great museums to check out. And there’s the Royal Palace. So, you could easily fit in one of those.

I would make a restaurant reservation for 8pm somewhere nice. Madrid has a lot of amazing restaurants.
