Hello - we are going to be in Madrid on Christmas Day - obviously the Prado, Palace etc will all be closed but curious if anyone has suggestions on fun experiences that day - will there be any restaurants open?tours of the city either walking or by bus? All suggestions welcome
Don't know about Madrid but we were in Seville on Christmas day and absolutely nothing was open. A couple associate with hotels were open and packed with tourist. On the advice of our prior day tour guide we laid in a supply of cheese, bread, wine, meats, desserts, etc., and used our hotel's roof top garden for our Christmas day meals. I would not count on anything being open or running.
Are you religious? Attend a Christmas day service at one of the churches or at Almudena Cathedral? It could be a moving experience. Then, check out some of the beautiful parks.
I think Retiro Park would be nice on Christmas Day.
And the big hotels should have their restaurants and bars open -- you will need reservations.
Also, I believe San Gines Chocolateria is open every day of the year for yummy hot chocolate and churros:
