we fly into MAD from the states at 8:35 am and fly out from MAD that afternoon at 3:45 pm for Nice, Fr. do you think we'd be able to take transportation into the city, have lunch somewhere, then return to the airport in time for our afternoon flight?
if so, which transportation option would you use (train, metro, bus) and where would you recommend having a quiet lunch?
The ride into the city will take about 40 minutes depending which mode you take and where in the city you go. Assuming you need to be back to the airport a couple hours before the flight, that doesn’t leave a lot of time. This assumes your flight arrives on time. If leaving the terminal, you’ll have to go through passport control and that could take as long as an hour. Not that it can’t be done, but you need to consider whether the hassle is worth the probably less than 2 hours you’d get to spend in town. I always take the metro into the city.
