Madrid La Latina area

We are considering this area to stay for 4 nights in Madrid. We plan to train to Toledo for the day and possibly Segovia if time allows. Is this a good area for acess to train station etc? And would there be recommendations for hotel? Any other suggestions or insight most welcome.

Vibrant and filled with locals.
We stayed near Plaza de Cascorro in an apartment taking advantage of local shops and Mercado de la Cedala for food purchases. Highly recommend renting in lieu of hotel.
Old town Madrid is an easy walking area of relatively small size offering a big menu of things to do.
Don't eat in/near the Plaza's as simply too touristy and pricey.
Highly recommend investing in a food tour;

Also recommend viewing the Spain Revealed You Tube channel for great local insight.

Enjoy!

La Latina blends a bit with the Lavapies neighborhood to its east, and it's a great area. This is where I spend most of my time in Madrid. It's super central and convenient for sightseeing in the city, while tucked away from most of the tourist traffic. Sticking north of the Cebada Market is probably best for the sake of convenience.

Atocha station, to Toledo, is easy enough, just two Metro stops from Plaza de Tirso de Molina. Getting to Chamartine for Segovia would be a long ride in the opposite direction on the same Metro line—but that's about as good as it gets for getting to the northern station. I'd argue that 4 nights doesn't leave time for two-day trips.

The Rastro, the weekly Sunday flea market, can feel like both a letdown and a hassle. It floods Plaza de Cascorro with people, but the stalls have more chachi than anything interesting. (there's better stuff if you divert onto the side streets.) The crowds make getting even a coffee or a beer challenging on Sundays.

I stay with a friend there, so don't really know the hotels—I don't think there are a lot of options.

Let me know if you do stay there—I'll follow up with some neighborhood favorites.

I think a hotel like Madrid Edition would be perfect:

- It is a 2 min walk away from La Latina
- It is a 2 min walk away from Sol which is the main communications hub (metro and cercanias)
- It has a swimming pool

As for food tours there is one that takes place in La Latina:
