Ho, we will finish our trip to Portugal with 4 nights in Madrid. On a previous tour we stayed at Hotel Europa in Madrid, that was 8 years ago. Would welcome some ideas for similar or other well placed hotels for visiting all the sights. Also, recommendations for day trips ie: Toledo. TIA

Madrid has many great options for xay trips, though all of these are actually worth an overnight or two (or even three, at least in the case of Toledo):
- Toledo
- Segovia
- Cuenca (on the way to Valencia; works only via high-speed train, for which the fare can be high without early purchase)
- Salamanca
- Alcala de Henares (easy and cheap bu commuter train)
- Zaragoza (on the way to Barcelona; like Cuenca, requires potentially expensive high-speed train)

We stayed at Hotel Europa last June. Friends of ours stayed at Hotel Francisco I, C. del Arenal, 15. It is near the Puerta Del Sol. Acraven already mentioned the main day trip locations.
