Madrid Hotel Suggestion?

Hello, all. I'm new here, so please be gentle!

We'll be using Madrid as our fly in (and out) city before embarking on a tour out of Bilbao that we have already booked. We're looking at three days in Madrid at the beginning of our trip. We will not have a car. We're in our 70s but enjoy city walks (we won't be breaking any speed records, however). We're interested in visiting the major art museums but would certainly consider others, art or otherwise, as well as historical sites.

Would appreciate any recommendations for a 3-4 star hotel in the city core as a jumping off spot for our excursions. The only real requirement would be accessibility features in the bathroom, which I assume would not be too much of an issue.

Thanks to all in advance!

Look at hotels along the Paseo de Recoletos/Paseo del Prado between the Reina Sofía/Atocha area and the Prado if you think you’ll spend the majority of your time in the art museums and Retiro park. An issue with that area is it’s a 15-20 walk to the Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol area that is the hub of activity, there are fewer restaurants, and little activity in the evening.

Conversely, if you select a hotel in the the Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol area, you’re 15-20 minutes walk from the museums, but there’s a lot of activity in the evening and plenty of restaurants.

We’ve stayed at Hotel Europa at the Puerta del Sol on our last few visits to Madrid.

We enjoyed our stay at The Principal in Madrid. It’s location is perfect for walking to the museums
and for walking around the city. We will stay there again.
