I would like a recommendation for a hotel in Madrid for late October that is easy for us to walk around Madrid and also maybe close to the train in Madrid to the airport. Thank you

We liked The Principal in Madrid. I don’t know if it’s close to the train.

We stayed at the Hotel Petit Palace Posada del Peine in November, 2023. Founded in 1610, they claim to be the oldest hotel in Spain. "Peine" translates to comb; the original proprietor always gave a comb to their guests. Like most hotels, there is a free plastic comb. The real nifty souvenir is the skeleton key which is inside the refrigerator. I was hoping that it would open some secret room in this old hotel. I asked the front desk and they told me it is a souvenir bottle cap opener.
The hotel is located in a very convenient location. It is within easy walking distance of the Sol Metro station, Plaza Mayor, San Miguel market, and the Royal Palace. The world's oldest restaurant Botin is nearby. The rooms are very nice. Try to get one with a balcony. Nice lounge with complimentary coffee bar and pastries. And the staff was very friendly.
We had a 6:15 am flight so we grabbed a taxi for about €30.
