Madrid hotel

Hi. I am looking for hotel recommendations in Madrid for one night in September.. I am arriving on an overnight plane in the morning and will be driving to Seville the next day. I have reserved a compact car rental at the Madrid airport. My hotel budget is about $200. Convenience to the center of the city is important, as well as convenient parking.

Big fans of Hotel Europa, dead center of old Madrid, over the years - four different times over the past 20 years. Always dependable. The breakfast is now in the cafe next door. Front rooms can be a little noise but we live them for overlooking the plaza.

I have stayed at the Europa twice and would definitely go back because it is a central location in Madrid, close to sights and transportation connections - cercanias to the airport and cercanias/metro to the train station. And it's certainly within your budget, even if you add overnight parking. From their website We offer a partner car park for your vehicle. Save 20% if you booked on our website and park at Plaza del Carmen (200 yds. from the hotel) or on Calle Sevilla (400 yds.), without having to book in advance and by stamping your ticket at reception (minimum stay of 9 hours). Day rate: 25,28€. We also have a private car park on Plaza del Callao, 400 yards from the hotel. You will have to pick up and drop off the keys at the hotel reception desk beforehand. No time restrictions. Day rate: 20€. Advance booking is mandatory. Parking not available for large cars.

However, I wonder why you are renting a car at the airport. Madrid traffic can be miserable. It sounds like you want to spend the day sightseeing in Madrid, take the train in. If you really need a car, you can rent it the next day when you leave for Sevilla. But again, why drive? viamichelin.com estimates net driving time of nearly 5.5 hours (without traffic delays) and about €55 for gas. The train ride is about 3 hours. There's little benefit to having a car in Sevilla, especially if you're staying in the center, where you'll pay a lot for parking. If you are returning to Madrid later in your trip, it makes more sense to take the train to Sevilla when you land at Barajas.

I skipped the hotel's breakfast. I did try the hotel's cafe once for an evening snack and decided I was glad I never ate there. A 1-15 minute walk from the hotel will take you to the San Miguel market - great place to graze on drinks and tapas.

Good choice. I stayed there in May and was my 2nd time staying there. For both visits my room was on the front and noise was not an issue. Close the windows if you don't want the street noise. I too skipped the breakfast and walked a few minutes down the street to Gines Chocolateria for coffee, churros and chocolate.
