Madrid Guides

Does anyone have a company they can recommend for guides while in Madrid? Are there RS guides we can contact/employ there for 1-2 days ?Any experiences? This is first stop before joining RS Andalusia tour in Cordoba. Will be there Friday afternoon September 23 and all day Saturday September 24 so will crowd it in. I want to see definitely the Prado, the Royal Palace and of course Guernica. and I have been told to see the Thyssen or Maybe the Thyssen over the Royal Palace.. Any recommendations for one old guy who loves art history? All nice comments are appreciated ! Thank You.

Basically your list includes the big three Art museums, The Prado, The Reina-Sofia (Guernica), and the Thyssen-Bornemisza. You can get a combo ticket to cover the three, but I would not compare the Thyssen to the Royal Palace, quite different.

As for tours, not for those sights, but for a general overview or food tours, Devour Tours is very active and well recommended (they started in Madrid)

Heads up that the Thyssen, while it has some fine work, is a curitorial mess, and there’s very little about it that’s Spanish. It’s mostly the collection of a German/Swiss/Hungarian heir who only parked in in Madrid because the government gave him prime real estate for it.

Federico Barroso leads RS tours (Best of Barcelona and Madrid) and has his own tour company in Madrid. Walking through an art museum and the Royal Palace with Federico is a life changing experience. He may not be available for your requested dates but contacting him is worth a try. (info@spainfred.com).
