Does anyone have a favorite activity in Madrid to share with me besides the museums that they really enjoyed?
Go on a food tour; see a flamenco show
Try the Botin Experience at the Botin Restaurant. It is supposedly the worlds oldest continuous restaurant open. You have a one hour tour before the restaurant opens, very interesting, your choice of seating, a delicious meal with appetizers, dinner, dessert, wine, and a sangria pitcher.
You can book on their website.
Strolling aimlessly is certainly on the top of my list. Also, lingering on restaurant terraces. (One hour for one espresso/beer/coke/water… no problem.)
Also try El Riojana, for hot chocolate, around the corner from the over-hyped San Gines.
We stay at Hotel Europa and enjoy sitting outside at the attached cafeteria people watching. We too wander aimlessly from time to time to see different neighborhoods.
People watching while having a drink or tapas at Plaza Mayor is interesting, after a visit to the bullfight bar there (La Torre del Oro). There are some graphic photos in the bar, that show bulls that have hit home in the arena. Mercado de San Miguel has a great assortment of tapas vendors. Very popular. I had a drink at the rooftop terrace of H & M Department store. Great views of Gran Via and city lights. Others can share their alternate rooftop terrace locations.
Thank you all for your suggestions ! Today is our last day in beautiful Madrid. I loved Madrid! Clean , beautiful and full of history. If coming to Spain , Madrid is a must see!
