Madrid—> ???? —> Barcelona with 3 kids in August

Hi Group! I am seeking some advice regarding my family trip to Spain in the last 2 weeks of August. We will be flying from nyc to Madrid and staying in an apt for 3 nights.
From there, we were considering touring Andalusia for the next 5 days but would prefer one home base as we will save the last 4 nights for Barcelona.
Here are my questions:
1. Where would be the best place to stay in Andalusia from where we could see the most and relax at the end of the day. I’ve often thought about making this part just a chilled out beach spell but I would like to see Ronda and some other towns. The hotels, for a family of 5, either look kind of cheesy and crowded or are super expensive. Does anyone have experience renting a house near the beach? Which town?
2. Our last 4 night will be spent near Barcelona as we fly out of there. Should we AirBnB it or find a fun hotel in Barca- or outside of Barca (I heard there are some cool beach towns there).

Please help. I’m confused.

I think that it will be exceptionally hot in Andalucia in August - nearly unbearable. I'd suggest going north to the Basque country at that time of year.

As previously mentioned, Andalusia will be unbearably hot. I would spend another day or two in Madrid and do a day trip to Toledo and/or Segovia. From there, head to the coast for a couple more days and finish in Barcelona.

Not only will Andalusia be blazing hot (high temps over 100 F), but Madrid, as well. Be sure to get lodgings with AC. August is high season for beach towns. That’s why you are seeing high prices.

The suggestion to look at northern Spain is a good one, which will work well with Barcelona. There are lots of attractive towns along the Bay of Biscay and on the Costa Brava.

Look at beach time on the Costa Brava between stays in Madrid and Barcelona.

Places like ... Llafranc, Tamariu, Begur, Aiguablava, Calella de Palafrugell.

Train from Madrid to Girona, and pick up a car there.
