I read in Rick Steves book that the Atocha station has luggage storage, but only until 22:00. Does anyone know if there are luggage lockers that can be left until 2:00. I have to be at the airport at 5 in the morning.

Found this online at the Madrid-Atocha.com site. “The left luggage facilities are open 365 days of the year. You can access them daily between 05.30 and 22.20. They have small, medium and large lockers. You can see up-to-date prices on the Adif website (Adif is the company managing Spain’s railways).” There were a couple companies with facilities 300 meters from the station, but they too closed by 1100pm.

I'm a little confused. Why do you want to leave a bag until 2:00 if you have to be at the train station at 5:00?

Where are you planning to spend the night? This looks like an "airport Hotel" situation to me, the expense of which is not huge compared to what I assume to be a transatlantic flight.
