I will be in Madrid the first week in May. Is it worth purchasing the Art Triangle pass which gets you into the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums? The pass is good for a year, yet you can use it only once per museum and at the Thyssen Bornemisa it doesn't include the two temporary exhibits there. All 3 museum have certain days and times that are free. And even though the big draw to buying the pass is that you avoid the long lines to get in. Yet, at either the Prado or the the Reina Sofia, it seems that you have to wait in the line anyway to get the voucher to enter. Any suggestions? Thank you.
How old are you? If you are over 65 the Reina Sofia is free. Easy enough to buy your tickets on line for the other two and wait in the ticket-holders line.
Yes, I am over 65. Thanks for the advice.
If you're worried about crowds and waiting in a long line, I wouldn't get the paseo del arte ticket. If you're over 65, it's just not a good deal at all.
My advice is to pre-book a ticket at the Prado for a less crowded time. The least amount of crowds I've seen was Sunday morning at 10 AM. But, evenings are often less crowded too. Checking the location data (Popular times) on Google Maps can be instructive.
Reina Sofia isn't usually insanely crowded. If you get there near opening time, you can easily buy tickets without much wait in my experience. If you're over 65, tickets are free.
Thyssen is the same, but reduced tickets are 10 euros.
