Can anyone recommend a quiet centrally located neighborhood for renting an apartment in Madrid? Will be renting for a week and would like a scenic area less touristy but with good access to Metro and train station. Anyone have recommendations on an apartment rental agency?

Our family likes the Salamanca neighborhood near the Retiro Park, the Puerta de Alacala and the calle Serrano. We use the Retiro metro station. We have stayed at the Hotel Wellington but have seen apartments in this area listed in the VRBO web site. It is a residential neighborhood.

I'm in agreement with La Latina/Lavapies. Easily my favorite neighborhood. I have a couple links to 1 bedroom/studio AirBnbs if you are interested. I have stayed at both and they are both excellent.

We stayed in the Lavapies area in a AirBnB apartment and it was the perfect location. Easy walk to the Atocha train station, the 3 main museums, several metro stops and as a bonus great restaurant options within minutes. And you can get to all the usual tourist areas within 15 minutes.

Our preference is La Latina, but all are good choices.
