Madrid airport transport, early morning

I'll be in Madrid for several days this autumn, and I have a 6:00 AM flight out (Lufthansa to Frankfurt) on a weekday. I want to stay in a centrally located hotel for sightseeing, but not sure about the last night before my early AM flight. Assuming that I should be at the airport by about 4:00, should I spend that night at a hotel near the airport? Assuming that an airport hotel doesn't have a shuttle that early (some start at 6:00, way too late for me), could I expect an airport hotel to line up a taxi that early? What if the hotel is in central Madrid -- could I expect them to arrange a taxi early enough to get me to the airport by 4:00? (Traffic shouldn't be an issue, and I understand that it will cost 30 euro.)

I'd appreciate anyone's experience or insights on this dilemma. I'd just as soon not have to switch hotels but I can't afford to miss that flight.

I almost always spend the night at a hotel near the airport the night before I leave. I especially would do it if I had a 6 a.m. flight. It just alleviates any stress and also means I wouldn't have to get up quite as early. Try to find a hotel that has a shuttle, some may have a cost, but to me it's worth it for the peace of mind.

I flew out of Madrid in May at 8am and stayed in downtown. There was no traffic and cost 30 Euros (fixed price).

Prior to this, I stayed twice at an airport hotel (TRYP), which provides a 24-hr shuttle. In early morning, the shuttles were often quite full. My shuttle served two hotels (TRYP and Melia), and it first stopped at my hotel. By the time it reached Melia, it was already full. So, this is something to note too. Remember that most folks who stay at airport hotels are in your situation.
